Ramesh lights the two candles at the same time. When he went to bed he saw the thicker one is twice the length of the thinner one. How long ago did Ramesh light the two candles?
Recent Answer : Added by Naru Mani Chandan On 2022-03-18 09:18:12:

3 hours ago.

Thin candle melts 3/4 in 3 hours leaving 1/4
Where as in the same time thick candle melts 3/6 leaving 3/6 which is 1/2. Now thick candle is exactly twice than the thin candle.

Or via modeling:

We need to find time at which the length of the thin candle is half the thick candle. Let x be the time. Thin candle melts at 1/4 an hour and thick candle melts at 1/6 an hour. In x hours they melt at x/4 and x/6 respectively. What’s left will be 1 – x/4 and 1 – x/6. We need to find x at which :

2 * (1 – (x/4)) = 1 – (x/6)

This equation results in x = 3

Ques:- if length of a rectangle is incr by 20% and width is decr by 20% then area
Recent Answer : Added by Admin On 2020-05-17 11:59:46:

we know,
area=b*h
b gets increased by 20% i.e (b+0.20b)
h gets decreased by 20% i.e (h-0.20h)
rewriting the equation(area=b*h),
area=(b+0.20b)*(h-0.20h)
area=b(1+0.20)*h(1-0.20)
area=b(1.20)*h(0.80)
area=b*h*(1.20)*(0.80)
area=b*h*(0.96)
i.e new area=0.96 times the original area
if 100% was the original area,it has decreased to 96%
so,100%-96%= 4%

Ques:- A car is filled with 4.5 gallons of fuel for a round trip . Car is taken 1/4 more than in going than coming up. What is the fuel consumed in coming up ?
Recent Answer : Added by Admin On 2020-05-17 12:00:30:

Fuel to go = x + (x/4)=5x/4
Fuel to come = x
now,
x+(5x/4) = 4.5
9x/4 = 4.5
9x = 18
x = 2 (Fuel to comeup)
Fuel to go will be:
2+(2/4) = 2 + (0.5) = 2.5

Ques:- A man spends half of his salary on household expenses, 1/4th for rent, 1/5th for travel expenses, the man deposits the rest in a bank. If his monthly deposits in the bank amount 50, what is his monthly salary ?(a) Rs.500(b) Rs.1500(c) Rs.1000(d) Rs. 900
Recent Answer : Added by DK BOSS On 2021-07-17 06:22:58:

option c is the answer
as
1/2 for household
1/4 for rent
1/5 for travel
remaining for deposit in bank(i.e) 1/2+1/4+1/5=19/20 ; 1-19/20=1/20
so 1/20 for deposit
1/20(x)=50
hence x=1000
option c is the answer

Ques:- Perimeter of the back wheel = 9 feet, front wheel = 7 feet on a certain distance, the front wheel gets 10 revolutions more than the back wheel .What is the distance?
Recent Answer : Added by Admin On 2020-05-17 12:04:03:

Let the revolutins made by bigger wheel is: x
then revolution by smaller wheel will be: x+10
Now, the distance covered by both wheels will be same.
So,
7(x+10)=9x
7x+70=9x
70=2x
35=x
so distance travelled=9*35=315
or 7*45=315
